Fort Worth Modern Museum of Contemporary Art Spring Break Art Camp 2016
SPRING BREAK ART CAMP, 1-Week, Ages 9-11: Our goal was to encourage active looking, curiosity, personal reflection, and empowerment. We created and implemented a curriculum that integrated the Fort Worth Modern’s permanent collection with activities focused on finding intention/meaning within a thing, place, or action.
Our mantra for the week was
LOOK, THINK, MAKE!
LOOK: Explained, demonstrated, and lead students how to view artwork; breaking down visual cues as a language.
MAKE: Created a video scavenger hunt with 50+ scenarios, encouraging exploration and camera use/movement/angles. Students used their footage from the scavenger hunt to create original expression videos and an artist statement video.
THINK: Asked students to think, write, and verbally communicate what they saw, both individually and in groups. Discussed how visual cues could influence a viewer’s interpretation of a piece and how to theorize an artists’ message / intention / inspiration.
Mud Campaign selected individual clips from each student and created a compilation video. A screening of all of the films concluded art camp and each student went home with a flash drive containing each other’s videos.
